Genre- Zombie Film

Zombies are creatures usually portrayed as either a reanimated corpse or a mindless human being. While zombie films generally fall into the horror genre, some cross over into other genres, such as comedy, science fiction, thriller, or romance, even animated films. There have even been developments in zombie-specific sub-genres, such as the "zombie comedy" or the "zombie apocalypse".

Zombies have become a popular genre of films, some very succesful with obvious examples in Dawn of the dead, Night of the living dead, Zombieland and Shaun of the dead.

Genre- Horror Films

Horror films are unsettling movies that strive to elicit the emotions of fear, disgust and horror from viewers. They often feature scenes that startle the viewer through the means of macabre and the supernatural, thus frequently overlapping with the fantasy and science fiction genres. Horrors also frequently overlap with the thriller genre.
Horror films deal with the viewer's nightmares, hidden worst fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Although a good deal of it is about the supernatural, if some films contain a plot about morbidity, serial killers, a disease/virus outbreak and surrealism, they may be termed "horror".
Plots written within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage, commonly of supernatural origin, into the everyday world. Themes or elements often prevalent in typical horror films include ghosts, torture, gore, werewolves, ancient curses, satanism, demons, vicious animals, vampires, cannibals, haunted houses, zombies and masked serial killers. Conversely, stories of the supernatural are not necessarily always a horror movie as well.

These two posters where used for the 2004 release of Dawn of the Dead. Personally i think the poster on the right hand side is a more effective poster; at first glance it gives a clear idea of what sort of film it is advertising. The figure on the poster is looking very aggressive and unhuman as if there is something wrong with blood dripping from his mouth, this look isn't necessarily saying he's a zombie but it gives the audience the idea that this film is maybe scary and features the character or something to do with the character. The poster has a very modern look about it as the the photo of the character is high quality and it looks sleek against the white background. Contrasted with the poster on the left it is not very similar; the silhouettes of the crowd of people instantly stand out, but you don't notice untill closer inspection that these figures are supposed to be zombies. A film poster may only be seen by a person for a couple of seconds as they may be walking past it, so i don't think too much attention to detail is important. The colours used are quite dark which contrasts with the other poster as it is very bright, the brighter colours stand out alot more than the darker colours which again don't help the poster. I think this poster is meant as more of a art piece for people to see who are interested in the film whereas i think the poster on the right would be more effective to advertise the film.

The above video is for the teaser trailer to I AM LEGEND.
I Am Legend is a sci-fi thriller about a man who is the last person left in new york, full of humans infected with a virus. I think this is a very clever teaser trailer as it doesnt tell the audience too much; in the trailer it doesn't even mention that the character shown (Will Smith) is accompanied by thousands of zombies, and all it mentions right at the end of the trailer that he is not alone. Saying that he is not alone leaves a huge question in the audiences head and will more than likely get them more interested in the film. The trailer uses some stunning camera shots alongside amazing CGI effects. The mise-en-scene in the shots like the one with the character walking through a deserted, grassy times square definitely grasp the audiences attention. The representation that Will Smith is protagonist is clear in the trailer as he is the main person shown throughout, this gives away a small amount of information about the narrative, the rest is either portrayed on screen, not mentioned or given to us in a small amount of detail: e.g 'the last man on earth is not alone'.

The video above is to the teaser trailer for paranormal activity2.
The actual film is a psychological horror film, and it shows this throughout the trailer. Because of the use of CCTV cameras there are no special camera shots used in the trailer, but these cameras give off an eerie presence with luminous blue glow and the cameras switching from room to room. Because of the shortness of the trailer not much of the narrative of the film is given away. It does however show a bit of the setting and shows one room which features a dog and a baby, however these dissapear later when a dark figure is shown in the doorway. The trailer uses text to put across anything that it wants to say as throughout its quite silent to add more effect to parts that are meant to shock the audience, one bit of text reads 'nothing can prepare you for what's next.' This will excite the audience of the trailer as viewers of the previous film will know this one is even scarier, and new viewers will think it's very scary and may even entice them into watching the previous film. This trailer is very effective, it doesnt show much but just enough get the audience interested and excited, and shows a couple of 'jumpy' moments which will give the audience a nice idea of what to expect.

Teaser Trailer

A teaser trailer, or just teaser, is a short trailer used to advertise an upcoming film, television program, video game, or product.
Teasers, unlike typical theatrical trailers, are usually very short in length (between 30–60 seconds) and usually contain little, if any, actual footage from the film. Sometimes, it is merely a truncated version of a theatrical trailer. They are usually released long in advance of the film they advertise. One of the reasons for the name "teaser" is because they are shown usually a long time (one or one and a half years) before the movie comes out, so as to "tease" the audience.

when compared the teaser trailer shows alot of the usual aspects of a teaser trailer, with it being fairly short and not giving much away, whilst the main trailer is a lot longer and goes into a lot more detail.
